2️⃣ American Truck Simulator – How to Install Mods (Rewritten)

Installing Mods in American Truck Simulator: A Complete Beginner Guide

American Truck Simulator mods allow you to transform the game with new US trucks, realistic engines, expanded maps, and visual upgrades. Whether you’re new to modding or just need a refresher, this guide explains exactly how to install and use mods in ATS.

Step 1: Choose the Right ATS Mod

Not all mods work with every game version. Before downloading:

  • Confirm the mod is designed for American Truck Simulator

  • Check the supported ATS version

  • Review dependencies (some mods require others)

Mods typically come as .scs files, which ATS reads natively.

Step 2: Find the American Truck Simulator Mod Directory

ATS stores mods separately from ETS2.

Default path:

Documents/American Truck Simulator/mod

If you don’t see a mod folder, create one manually.

Step 3: Install the Mod Files

  • Copy the .scs file into the mod folder

  • If downloaded as a compressed file, extract it first

❗ Only .scs files should be inside the folder — not nested directories.

Step 4: Enable Mods Using Mod Manager

  1. Open American Truck Simulator

  2. Select Mod Manager from the main menu

  3. Locate your installed mod

  4. Activate it by moving it to the enabled section

  5. Apply changes and exit

ATS will warn you if a mod is incompatible or outdated.

Step 5: Load Into the Game

After enabling mods:

  • Load your existing profile, or

  • Start a fresh profile if the mod changes maps or gameplay

If the game asks to confirm changes, accept and continue.

Troubleshooting ATS Mods

  • Black screen or crash: Conflicting or broken mod

  • Missing content: Required dependency not installed

  • Save won’t load: Mod removed from an active profile

Always disable mods before removing them permanently.

Best Practices for ATS Modding

  • Keep your mods updated after game patches

  • Avoid activating too many mods at once

  • Read mod descriptions carefully

  • Test new mods on a backup save
