Privacy Policy

How Modsy collects, uses, and protects information across the platform.

This Privacy Policy describes how Modsy handles your information when you use the platform. By using the site, you agree to the practices below. If you do not agree, please stop using the service.

Information we collect

  • Account data: username, email, password hash, role (user/modder/admin), and profile details you choose to share (bio, avatar, social or support links).
  • Content data: mods you upload, titles, descriptions, tags, game/compatibility selections, changelogs, media you attach, and moderation status (pending/approved/archived/rejected).
  • Usage data: downloads, follows, favorites, ratings, comments, notifications, and reports you submit so we can power discovery, safety, and analytics.
  • Membership and premium access data: Modder Membership status, checkout and subscription identifiers, premium mod access records, and entitlement history needed to unlock protected downloads.
  • Connected provider data: Patreon campaign or tier details and Lemon Squeezy store, product, variant, customer, and subscription identifiers used for modder monetization. API keys, tokens, and webhook secrets are stored encrypted and are not displayed after saving.
  • Network & device signals: IP address and country-level inference are stored with download events to support security, abuse prevention, and download analytics.
  • Logs: system logs for reliability, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting.

How we use information

  • Operate core features: authentication, profiles, mod pages, search, comments, and notifications.
  • Protect the community: enforce Platform Rules, investigate reports, and remove violating content.
  • Operate premium access: process Modder Membership status, connect supported subscription providers, verify Patreon or Lemon Squeezy access, and protect premium downloads.
  • Communicate with you: account updates, moderation decisions, and critical service notices. You can manage notification preferences in your account where available.
  • Improve reliability: monitor performance, prevent spam, and keep storage within configured limits.

Storage and retention

Data is stored in the platform database and media storage (local during development or cloud storage such as S3 in production). We retain information for as long as needed to operate the service, meet legal requirements, and resolve disputes.

Cookies and similar storage

Modsy uses cookies and browser storage to keep the platform secure, remember choices, measure activity, and support configured advertising. Optional categories are disabled until you allow them from the cookie banner or Cookie settings link in the footer.

  • Necessary: authentication, security, checkout access, protected downloads, abuse prevention, and storing your cookie choices.
  • Preferences: interface choices such as selected game and sidebar state.
  • Analytics: mod page activity measurement and analytics tags when they are configured.
  • Marketing: advertising tags and related ad personalization signals when they are configured.

You can change or withdraw optional consent at any time from Cookie settings in the footer. Withdrawing a category stops future use of that category and clears supported first-party browser storage for that category.

Account deletion

You can delete your account from Profile Settings > Security. To confirm deletion, you will be asked to type your username before the delete account button becomes available.

Account deletion permanently removes your profile and associated user content where deletion is technically possible, including mods, files, images, comments, posts, ratings, reports, favorites, follows, notifications, and related activity.

Some records may be retained when required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute handling, or financial and accounting obligations. Examples may include audit logs, abuse investigation records, payment records, and records needed to protect the integrity of the platform.

Sharing

  • We do not sell your personal information. Data is shared only with service providers needed to run the platform (storage, email delivery, and subscription or payment providers such as Patreon and Lemon Squeezy when you use those integrations).
  • Content you publish (mods, descriptions, media, comments, profile details) is public to signed-in users and, where enabled, guest users.
  • We may disclose information when required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and integrity of the community.

Security

Modsy uses role-based access, fraud checks on downloads, and moderation workflows to safeguard accounts, premium access, and content. No platform can guarantee perfect security, but we monitor for abuse and act quickly on reports.

Your choices

  • Update your profile and social links at any time.
  • Remove or archive your mods when you no longer want them available.
  • Delete your account from Profile Settings > Security.
  • Change optional cookie and browser storage choices from Cookie settings in the footer.
  • Request a data export by contacting the team with your username and email.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform evolves. Significant changes will be announced through the site or email. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
