Connect your Lemon Squeezy store

Keep customers and revenue in your own store while Modsy verifies subscription events and protects the mods mapped to your recurring products.

On this page

Your store remains independent

Customers, subscriptions, products, taxes, payouts, and revenue remain in your Lemon Squeezy account. Modsy uses your selected store only to create verified subscription checkouts and determine access to the mods you map.

Before you start

You need:

  • A verified Modsy creator account.
  • A current Creator Membership plan that includes Lemon Squeezy monetization.
  • An activated creator-owned Lemon Squeezy account and store.
  • At least one active recurring subscription product and variant.
  • Permission in Lemon Squeezy to create an API key and manage webhooks for the store.

Modsy currently maps recurring subscription variants. One-time products and non-subscription variants are shown as unsupported and cannot grant this type of premium access.

Create and activate your Lemon Squeezy account

If you do not already have a Lemon Squeezy account, start with their business-intent signup form:

Create a Lemon Squeezy account

Complete the account and store onboarding with accurate information about you, your creator business, and the digital products you intend to sell.

Lemon Squeezy may send a follow-up email before activating the account. For example, their review team may ask for:

  • A clear product overview, including the games or communities you serve.
  • The main features and benefits subscribers receive.
  • A complete pricing breakdown for each subscription plan.
  • Public links that help them review your creator profile, mods, or website.
  • Additional identity, business, tax, or payout information when required.

Reply directly to the legitimate review thread with the requested product and pricing details. Confirm that the sender uses an official Lemon Squeezy domain before responding. If identity documents are requested, follow the secure instructions supplied by Lemon Squeezy rather than sending sensitive documents through an unverified channel.

Review and activation are controlled by Lemon Squeezy

The questions and review time can vary. A follow-up email is possible, not guaranteed. Your Modsy integration can begin after Lemon Squeezy activates the account and you can create the store, subscription products, API key, and webhook.

Once the account is activated, create and publish the recurring subscription products you want to offer. Then continue with the API key and Modsy connection steps below.

Create an API key

After Lemon Squeezy activates your account and store:

  1. Sign in to Lemon Squeezy and open Settings → API.
  2. Select the plus (+) icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Enter a recognizable name, such as Modsy integration.
  4. Select an expiration date. Modsy does not require the key to expire frequently, so you can choose a distant date if Lemon Squeezy allows it and that fits your security policy.
  5. Select Create API key.
  6. Copy the API key when Lemon Squeezy displays it and keep it available for the connection steps below.

Store the key carefully

Treat the API key like a password. Record its expiration date so you can replace it before the integration stops working. Do not place the key in a mod archive, installer, screenshot, issue, or support message. If it is exposed, revoke it in Lemon Squeezy and reconnect Modsy with a new key.

Connect your store

  1. Open Modder Dashboard → Monetization.
  2. Find the Lemon Squeezy card and paste the API key into the API key field.
  3. Select Test credentials and confirm that the test succeeds.
  4. Confirm that Modsy lists the expected store or stores.
  5. Select the store that contains the subscription products you plan to use.
  6. Select Connect store.
  7. Clear the API key from any temporary clipboard manager or note where you may have placed it.

Modsy encrypts the connected credential and displays only a masked indicator afterward.

Open Monetization

Configure the signed webhook

Modsy attempts to register the required webhook automatically. If the connection reports that the webhook is registered, continue to catalog sync.

If automatic registration is unavailable, Modsy displays a manual setup panel containing:

  • The exact webhook URL for this creator connection.
  • A signing secret that is shown once.
  • The required event list.
  • The signature header Modsy verifies.

In Lemon Squeezy, create the webhook for the selected store and copy these values exactly. Select every event listed by Modsy.

Save the signing secret when it is shown

Modsy does not reveal the full secret again. If it was not saved or may have been exposed, reconnect the store to rotate it. Never create an unsigned webhook or substitute a different secret.

The connected card includes Webhook settings so you can copy the current URL and event list later. It shows only a masked secret indicator.

Sync your catalog

Select Sync catalog after the store is connected. Modsy imports products and variants from the selected store and displays their current status, recurring price, currency, and interval.

Run another sync whenever you:

  • Create or publish a subscription product.
  • Rename a product or variant.
  • Change its price or billing interval.
  • Disable, archive, or replace a product.

Only active recurring variants appear in the premium mod selector.

Configure mod access

When uploading or editing a mod:

  1. Choose Premium or Early Access.
  2. Select Lemon Squeezy under Payment providers. You may also select Patreon so a supporter can qualify through either provider.
  3. Select the active Lemon Squeezy subscription product shown by Modsy.
  4. For Early Access, choose how long subscribers receive access before the release becomes public.
  5. Complete the upload details and submit the mod for review.

Supporters must begin checkout from the Modsy mod page. A random purchase, a manually edited checkout URL, or a subscription to an unmapped product does not grant access.

Test subscriber access

Use a test-mode store or a controlled low-risk product before using the integration with a public release:

  1. Start checkout from the approved Modsy mod page.
  2. Complete the subscription using a separate supporter account.
  3. Confirm the signed-in Modsy account can unlock and download the mapped mod.
  4. Confirm an account without the mapped subscription remains locked.
  5. Cancel the test subscription and verify access follows the provider-confirmed paid-through date.
  6. Confirm future subscription updates reach the signed webhook.

Troubleshooting

Credentials are rejected

Create a new Lemon Squeezy API key from an account that can access the store, then test it again. Do not send the key to Modsy support.

The expected store is missing

The API key cannot access that store. Confirm the Lemon Squeezy account and store permissions before reconnecting.

No subscription products appear

Confirm the product and variant are active and recurring, then select Sync catalog. One-time variants are not eligible.

Webhook needs setup

Open Webhook settings, compare the URL and required event list with Lemon Squeezy, and confirm the saved signing secret is the one generated for this Modsy connection. Reconnect if the secret is lost.

A completed checkout did not unlock access

Confirm checkout began from the correct Modsy mod page and used the mapped product. Then verify webhook health in the Monetization card. Avoid repeating a charge while investigating.

Disconnecting

You may disconnect Lemon Squeezy even when monetization management is locked. Modsy attempts to remove its remote webhook and stops using the stored connection. Lemon-backed mods cannot accept new unlocks until a valid store, webhook, catalog, and product mapping are restored.
